Young Writers Project -- UPDATED 5-13.13 -- UPDATESpinners, Weavers & Knitters, Well up here in Vermont the apple blossoms are out but we're to have our second night of temperature in the 30s. No wonder so few people live up here! UPDATE: Young Writers Project noticed a halt in donations several weeks ago and discovered the problem: PayPal had updated its software AND in the process zapped our Donate button. It wasn't working properly. IT IS NOW WORKING! And we'd love to have your continued support! For those of you coming here for the first time, the technical side of this site is managed by Young Writers Project, a small Vermont nonprofit that works with youths in and out of schools to engage them to write, help them get better at it and publish their best work in newspapers, on radio and on stage. Since this site is free, the owners of the site are asking that you make a contribution to YWP to help out. kbbspin.org folks have given generously. THANK YOU THANK YOU! So you know how important your money is to us, YWP is now working with kids in the most economically challenged and diverse neighborhood in Vermont. Very exciting stuff. In order to make things happen, we are working with schools and nonprofits at no cost to help our collaborations get going. Your help in this would be most appreciated. We continue to do much in the schools -- 40 web sites in schools, several more in after-school programs. And we provide ongoing professional development training/coaching to 250 teachers. We are exploring partnerships with wonderful schools in Newark, N.J., and Pittsburgh, PA. Our main Web site, youngwritersproject.org, now is getting 1,500 visits a day and kids have been embarking on big projects -- novels, songs, self-created writing challenges. One 6th grader has started an online campaign to get her school to stop serving what she describes as 'synthetic peanut spread' at lunch. We feel we work on a good and noble cause: To help kids improve their writing which will deepen all their learning and their success later in life. Thanks all. Geoffrey Gevalt Geoffrey Gevalt
request for carding help from KathleenGood afternoon all. I am needing some help again, and I have to ask my friends to help...those friends who have carding machines that are easier than me flicking all the fiber I am washing. I will flick some and spin, as I love to do fiber prep this way. But I would love to have some of it carded, and some of it may need to be picked. I would be willing to pay someone to help me, as I have rheumatoid arthritis, and my poor husband has a broken wrist.
new wheel April 2013Hi everyone. Happy Spring. I have now chosen a new wheel, my FIRST new wheel in my life. It is a Jensen 30" cherry Classic Saxony wheel. I am not sure when exactly I will receive it, but I am so excited about this that I can hardly stand it. : ) yay! I hope you all are doing well, and that spring is springing where you live. Thank you too for all the good advice I've had over the years. I will keep my double treadle Schacht Matchless, as it is a good wheel still, and I will be able to use it in places where I cannot bring my new Jensen. That lovely lady will stay in my home....

WEB SITE FEESSorry to keep bugging you folks but at the end of November if I have not collected the money for the web fees we will no longer have this site to advertise. I run this list for free so you can all buy and sell items for FREE. I can not pay the web fees. Three kind people have donated $35.00. That leaves $165 outstanding. It is up to you folks if you want this list to continue. We only have 28 days to pay this fee. Thank you

8/28/12 Rare Breeds Survival Trust8/29/12 I was looking at the pages of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust of the UK today. It is a very interesting website, and they need support in order to protect the critical and endangered breeds that exist (or barely exist) today. We need to support these farmers by being interested in their flocks, buying their wool and yarn, and sending money if we have it to make it easier to protect farming these kinds of endangered animals so that they exist for our children to enjoy.
ADSOkay folks, it's happening again. Ads being put up without contact information. The instructions for ads are very clear stating that it MUST BE ON ALL ADS. I am spending countless hours emailing people to put this info in their ads. No More. LAST WARNING,when I find an ad with no contact info it will IMMEDIATELY be deleted without notice. I'm really sorry to have to do this but I have a life too and really don't appreciate spending it telling people to put their contact info in their ads. Thanks out to all of you who NEVER forget! I really do appreciate it. '
CONTACT info, revisitedGood morning all. As I get ready for work this morning, (I am a postpartum nurse in addition to being the list mom retired on the pages here).. I do ask that you please take a moment to think before placing ads, and include all your contact info, email, pricing, etc, so that Janet, our lovely listmom, who does this list management out of the goodness of her heart, does not have to feel burdened by work that is not hers to do.
